A Sussex Rural Cottage

Our client purchased this property due to its wonderful location in the Ashdown Forest, however they were aware that the layout needed reconfiguring and refurbishing to maximise its potential. As is the case with many properties of this style and age, it comprised mainly disconnected cramped areas that did not flow or allow direct access and views to the large garden and surrounding countryside.

Our vision included opening up the areas structurally to create a large open plan kitchen/dining/living area with underfloor heating.  This included the construction of a bespoke open staircase incorporating both wine racks and log store. The re-sited fireplace and wood burner provides a focal point for the relaxed seating area.  An additional bespoke bookcase/tv cabinet maximises storage space, and fulfils our client’s specific request to house his substantial collection of books.

Having replaced the windows, and moved the doorways, we were able to design and install a hand painted kitchen with a sense of contemporary country style, incorporating ample storage whilst creating a sociable living space.
